What are measurement services?

Home measurement services are just what they sound like: An appraiser measures the dimensions and square footage of your property, then draws a basic or highly detailed floorplan based on your requirements. The appraiser's report and floorplan is a form that can be used to prove an accurate Gross Living Area (GLA), the total livable space, of your home. These services are helpful and often necessary when disputing property taxes or selling a property.

How do home measurement services work?

During a home measurement service, a certified appraiser measures your property with a measuring tool — either a tape or laser measuring device. As they walk the property, they mark the layout of the rooms and other features, like closets, patios, and pantries. They may sketch the property. Then, the appraiser develops a report and detailed sketch showing the total area and the general layout of the house. The result is a document that can be used to prove certain specs of your property — like the Gross Living Area (GLA) — on tax documents, property listings, and more.
